The Humane League Japan

Making progress for farm animals
November 08, 2017

When The Humane League launched our presence in Japan in the spring of 2017, we were ready to change the world for farm animals in Asia! Of course, change takes effort and planning, and we've spent the last few months dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's before making our first, historic move.

But we did it!

Several weeks ago, our Japan colleagues sent out over 100 letters—this is how business is often done inJapan—to major companies to introduce ourselves and provide some education on farm animal welfare issues. While there are some animal groups operating in the country, farm animals welfare has not yet gained prominence as an issue in Japan. With The Humane League focusing exclusively on farm animal issues, we're hoping this will change.

As a result of that first round of letters, we held very productive in-person meetings with several companies, and more are expected.

We are excited to begin laying the groundwork for bringing farm animal issues to light in Japan, and are very enthusiastic about what we've already been able to accomplish. These letters and meetings mark an important first step. And, as they say, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Our journey in Japan is underway!
