ConAgra to Stop Caging of Egg-Laying Hens

January 18, 2016

You may have noticed on the previous blog post, we asked for people to sign a petition calling for ConAgra to stop the caging of hens in its supply chain. In just a few days, ConAgra followed up with The Humane League to inform our corporate outreach team that it is committed to eliminating cages throughout its entire US supply chain by 2025.

We just saw two major players in the food processing industry — Mondelēz International and Campbell's Soup Company — produce public timelines to end their support of cruel cages used by egg producers and now ConAgra — maker of many popular American household brands, including Egg Beaters, Chef Boyardee, Marie Callender's, Healthy Choice, and many more — has joined the boycott.

In 2011, ConAgra committed to sourcing one million eggs annually from cage-free suppliers, but today's statement is a clear affirmation that these abusive cages have no future in the company's operation.

The list of food manufacturers who have joined the cage boycott continues to grow. Through the work of The Humane League's campaigns and grassroots team members — and the support of our followers — we are eliminating a tremendous amount of suffering from the packaged food industry and showing the world that the animals in our food system deserve more consideration.
